Carlo Alberto Barbieri, Architect, is a Full Professor in Urban Planning at the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning (DIST) of the Politecnico di Torino. He has more than 30 years of teaching experience in Bachelor Degree, Master of Science Degree and Doctorate Courses. He has been the Scientific coordinator for DIST of the Europea Project Life SAM4CP (2014-2018).
He has been national Vice Presidente of the Italian National Institute of Planning (INU) and since 2013 il the President of the INU Chamber for the Regions of Piemonte e Valle d’Aosta.
Member of the National Superior Council of the Public Operas of the Italian Republic, he is designer of general and implementation plans for various cities in Italy (Piedmont, Liguria and Campania Regions).
He is the author of many national and international publication and studies on urban planning and territorial government.


Carolina Giaimo, Architect, PhD, Carolina Giaimo, Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino since November 2019, has developed her studies, scientific research, academic and professional carrier of the architect in the field of urban & planning and sustainable territorial government.
Enabled as Associate Professor in 2012, she has been Adjunct Professor at Politecnico di Torino since 2000 and Assistant Professor since 2016 in the areas of urban planning and design, settlement and infrastructural systems analysis and of the institutional systems of territorial government and governance.
PhD in Spatial Planning (VIII cycle, IUAV-Venice), she conducts research at the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning DIST – Politecnico di Torino on innovative perspectives in the field of urban regeneration and design, sustainable urban and territorial government and in the field of the integration of Ecosystem Services assessment to support land-use decisions.
She was involved in the European project LIFE SAM4CP for the period 2015-2018.
Member of the ESP-Ecosystem Services Partnership since 2015.
Member of the National Institute of Urban Planning (INU) since 1990, co-editor of “Rapporto dal territorio” (2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2016 and 2019 editions), Carolina Giaimo has been Member of the National Governing Council of the Italian National Institute of Planning (INU) since 2016, Member of the Executive Board since 2019, Vice President of the INU Chamber for the Regions of Piemonte e Valle d’Aosta since 2004, as well as Member of the Editorial Board of “Urbanistica Informazioni” since 2001 and of the international journal “Urbanistica” since 2012.
Architect and urban planner, she has conduct strategic environmental assessments of general and executive urban plans and co-designed and cooperation for significant urban plans and projects geared towards innovative planning and land management.
She is the author of many publications highlighting innovative outlooks for sustainable city governance and the plan as a unified and integrated framework for interventions.

Gianfranco Fiora, Architect, was chief of Spatial planning of the Province of Turin.
From 1997 to 2014 he was the delegate of the Province in METREX and the assistant of Prof. Mercedes Bresso, President of METREX, from 1999 to 2004.
He is one of the author of the PTC2 (Provincial Spatial Co-ordination Plan), that defines the regulation mainly addressed to the Municipalities; one of the main objectives of the PTC2 is the reduction of land consumption and sprawl.
He was a participant in the METREX project “The EUCO2 80/50 Project Stage 2 – Energy Emissions Scenarios in 14 Metropolitan Areas”, University of Manchester, Metropolregion Hamburg.
From 2010 to 2013 he was responsible for the European Project “Partenariat pour les projets de requalification urbaine dans les territoires” EUROPAID, program «CIUDAD», Italy, Lebanon and Jordan.
He is Member of the INU Chamber for the Regions of Piemonte e Valle d’Aosta since 2016.
He is the author of publication and studies on urban planning and territorial government.
From July 2018 he is Minister of Spatial Planning and Development of the Territory of the City of Orbassano (Province of Turin).
