Online Workshop: Unlocking Metropolitan Capacity

About the workshop
How can metropolitan organisations strengthen their capacity to address complex territorial challenges and support sustainable development?

This workshop presents and discusses the preliminary findings of the Bernd Steinacher Fellowship research on how governance structures, institutional competences and financial arrangements influence metropolitan capacity across Europe.

Based on a literature review, a survey of METREX members and comparative case studies, the research identifies common governance and financing models and develops recommendations for strengthening metropolitan cooperation and capacity.

Purpose of the session
As the final consultation stage of the research, the workshop will invite METREX members and partners to:

• validate and discuss the preliminary findings;
• share experiences and examples from their metropolitan contexts;
• identify additional challenges and good practices;
• refine the conclusions and recommendations of the final report.

Format
The interactive session will combine short presentations, live polling and facilitated discussion, drawing on the knowledge and practical experience of the METREX network.

Who should participate?
METREX members, metropolitan practitioners, policymakers and experts working on metropolitan governance, institutional capacity, competences, finance, strategic planning and sustainable territorial development.

Registered participants will receive the draft research report, detailed agenda and joining instructions in advance to support an informed and productive discussion.
