CLI-MET first Workshop with Stakeholders in Izmir: programme and speakers announced

CLI-MET (Implementing the Climate Agenda in Metropolitan Areas) is an Erasmus+ project led by the University of Palermo. The first CLI-MET Stakeholder Workshop will take place in Izmir, Türkiye, from 28 to 30 September 2026, hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality at Tarihi Havagazı Fabrikası.

The three-day event will bring together CLI-MET partners, metropolitan representatives, local stakeholders, practitioners and experts to explore how climate challenges can be addressed at the metropolitan scale, connecting academic research, metropolitan practice and policy implementation.

The keynote sessions will feature Karsten Zimmermann (TU Dortmund University), exploring the role of metropolitan governance in addressing complex territorial and climate challenges, and Alpo Tani (City of Helsinki), who will share Helsinki’s experience in climate change mitigation and adaptation and connect it with learning developed through metropolitan cooperation.

METREX will curate an international panel on climate challenges at the metropolitan scale, moderated by Viviana Rubbo, bringing together perspectives and case studies from Lviv, Coimbra and Milan. A second panel, curated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, will focus on local climate adaptation experiences and challenges in Izmir.

The programme will also include thematic working groups on climate risks and spatial planning; water, energy and mobility adaptation; social vulnerability and community resilience; and governance and institutional coordination, followed by a field visit to the Kadifekale community garden.
