In 2026, PlanningMatters will host a new series of five webinars (February–November) exploring the links between housing policy and spatial planning across European cities and regions.
Housing is now firmly at the centre of the EU policy agenda. Rising costs, demographic change and growing pressure on land are intensifying the housing challenge across many European territories. In this context, the EU is strengthening its action on housing—including through the recently launched EU Affordable Housing Plan, which aims to increase the supply of affordable, sustainable and quality housing through coordinated action across EU countries.
The webinar will look at how EU housing initiatives intersect with planning practice, and what this means for local and metropolitan planning authorities:
🏙️ What role can spatial planning play in responding to Europe’s housing crisis?
🗺️ How do EU housing initiatives translate into spatial and land-use realities on the ground?
