Over the last few decades, the economic base of many metropolitan areas across Europe has undergone a considerable process of restructuring. Due to various pressures, industrial activities have largely moved out of central urban areas or are under conflict with other inner-city land uses. However, in some cases new industry is now emerging within city centres, forcing a policy rethink.
This workshop, run as part of the Metropolitan Industrial Strategies & Economic Sprawl project, will look at the recent past and near future of metropolitan industries to help planners and policy makers have a more informed view when dealing with this fast-changing market.
