Metro Case

METROpolitan Collaborative Strategies and comparative Enhancements
Interreg Europe Project | 2025–2029

Metro Case aims to improve how metropolitan areas in Europe govern and coordinate policies across governance levels and sectors. The project addresses the growing complexity of metropolitan governance, where decision-making involves multiple institutions, levels, and thematic fields such as mobility, regeneration, innovation, and social inclusion.

Key challenges addressed:

Fragmentation in governance across metropolitan areas
Low level of alignment between different levels of government (local, regional, national)
The need for more integrated, participatory and evidence-based planning

Main objectives:

Strengthen multi-level and multi-sectoral coordination mechanisms
Improve regional and metropolitan policy instruments through shared learning
Identify and transfer good practices in metropolitan governance
Promote long-term cooperation among European metropolitan authorities.

Core activities:

Interregional Exchange Sessions to share policy progress and peer feedback
Staff Exchanges and Study Visits for peer-to-peer learning
Set-up of Communities of Practice (CoPs) in each region
Development of a Good Practices Handbook and shared governance tools
Drafting and implementing improved metropolitan policy frameworks.
