Title: Urbanisation in Latin America and the Caribbean: Pathways to Inclusive and Sustainable Housing

Abstract
Latin America and the Caribbean is among the most urbanised regions globally, yet the speed and unevenness of its urban growth continue to pose pressing challenges for housing, spatial equality, and sustainable development. This talk explores evolving urbanisation dynamics across the region and examines the policy frameworks, investment priorities, demographic shifts, and governance innovations needed to foster more inclusive and resilient cities.

Drawing on recent ECLAC research, regional case studies, and emerging trends in urban planning and social policy, the presentation outlines practical pathways to strengthen affordability, sustainability, and social inclusion in human settlements. A particular emphasis is placed on transitions toward more equitable housing systems.

About the speaker
