Title: Communication Officer for METREX
About the role
METREX is looking for a Communication Officer for communication and dissemination support and tools required for METREX activities, including bi-annual conferences, Expert groups events, and seminars, as well as EU-funded projects such as the R-map, DIGIREG, Metro Case, FOOD GAP, and CLI-MET.
The Communication Officer ensures high-quality, compliant, and consistent communication for METREX’s role, translating technical outputs into clear, practitioner-oriented messages for metropolitan authorities and wider stakeholders. The role plans and delivers dissemination activities across METREX channels (website, newsletters, social media, events), coordinates with the Secretariat Staff, as well as with Project coordinators from the several EU-funded activities on visibility requirements, supports of events communication (webinars/dialogues, panel debates and conferences), and maintains an evidence trail of communication actions in line with programmes rules, according to each project’s requirement.
Terms of engagement
The Communication Officer is remunerated at € 12.000 over 9 months (From April to December 2026) at a daily rate of € 300, giving an available time resource of 40 days of service over the contract period.
Key requirements (must have)
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience (min. 2 years) in communication for international organisations.
- Strong ability to translate technical content into accessible communications (news items, web articles, briefs, event announcements, stakeholder updates).
- Excellent written English (editing, copywriting, tone consistency); ability to proofread and produce final-ready texts.
- Hands-on experience managing web content (CMS such as WordPress or similar) and publishing workflows.
- Experience with newsletter tools (e.g., Zoho, Mailchimp or similar) and audience segmentation/basic analytics.
- Competence in social media communication (LinkedIn, Instagram, content calendars, post formatting, and basic performance tracking).
- Understanding of EU visibility and communication requirements (logos, funding acknowledgements, disclaimer use, archiving of outputs).
- Strong organisational skills: planning campaigns, meeting deadlines, coordinating inputs from multiple partners.
- Ability to maintain communication evidence for reporting (screenshots, links, publication logs, participant numbers, media mentions)
Additional assets
- Specific experience with communication rules and reporting templates in EU projects.
- Basic graphic/layout skills (Adobe Express, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and ability to prepare simple visual assets (badges, social cards, banners).
- Basic photo/video editing skills for short clips and event recap content (e.g., Premiere Rush).
- Experience supporting event communications end-to-end (registration pages, speaker packs, run-of-show, live posting).
- Familiarity with stakeholder/community management in networks (member-based organisations, metropolitan/regional authorities).
- Ability to work in additional languages (Italian/French/Dutch/Spanish) for broader dissemination.
- Knowledge of GDPR-compliant handling of mailing lists and event participant data.
- Experience drafting communication plans, KPIs, and short dissemination reports.
