At the conclusion of the project ESPON METRO – The role and future perspectives of Cohesion Policy in the planning of Metropolitan Areas and Cities, we organize a policy-oriented conference to present the outcomes of the project and the pan-European reflections on the role of metropolitan cities in the Cohesion Policy 2021-27.
The event aims at attracting the participation of national and international policy-makers and experts interested in the topic of metropolitan governance, and will be of particular relevance for actors involved in the preparation of strategies and policies for the development of metropolitan areas in Europe.
In addition to an overview of the results and main messages of the ESPON METRO project, and on the outcomes of the peer-learning workshops carried out within the project’s outreach activities, the conference will host some reflections on the role that metropolitan cities can play within the new cohesion policy from a European perspective, also in relation to the resources made available by the Next-Generation Europe programme.
- Morning session (10 a.m.- 12.45 p.m.), peer learning workshop “Le città metropolitane italiane nella politica di coesione europea: evidenze e prospettive” to reflect on the role of Italian metropolitan cities in the EU cohesion policy.
- Afternoon session (2-6 p.m.), international conference “The role and future perspectives of European metropolitan areas in the EU cohesion policy” with presentation and discussion of the project results and its nine case studies, and pan-European reflections on the role of metropolitan areas in the 2021-27 cohesion policy.
