Beyond Strategic Foresight: Experiencing Transition Futures in Regional Planning
22 April - 2026 , 13.00 – 14.30 CET
Online Seminar
What future are we planning for? How can we conceptualise something that might be very different from today? And how can we meaningfully share and communicate these thoughts with each other, in our work as planners?
With these questions as a springboard, the METREX Climate Challenge Expert Group welcomes you to a webinar on how techniques for transition communication can help us as planning practitioners.
Johannes Stripple, Associate Professor at the University of Lund, Sweden, and chair of the Climaginaries association will explore how speculative and immersive practices can complement strategic foresight in regional planning. Drawing on a range of techniques from Climaginaries projects, the session will show how futures can be made experientially present through narratives, exhibitions, and embodied encounters. Rather than supporting decision-making through scenarios alone, the contribution focuses on transition communication: how futures become meaningful, legitimate, and liveable in the present.
We will conclude with a shared discussion.
